Millie Moon Diapers Review, 2022: The Most Luxurious Diapers On The Market?

Millie Moon diapers are the new, exclusive-to-Target brand that’s already gaining a following. They’re marketed as the softest, most luxurious diapers, all at a budget-friendly price. So far, so good.

Of course, we all want the best for our babies. But with more and more of us looking for sustainable, safe options for our babies, is ‘soft’ enough? Or should we be adding ‘non-toxic’ and ‘biodegradable’ to our list of requirements?

Let’s take a closer look at Millie Moon diapers, the brand, and if they really do live up to the hype.

What are Millie Moon Diapers made of?

For me, one of the main indicators of an honest company that puts our babies first is transparency. Our babies live in diapers 24/7 for the first years of their lives. So it’s important that the diapers we choose don’t contain any hidden nasties.

Fortunately for parents, Millie Moon brand is very transparent about ingredients and materials used.

Millie Moon diapers are made ‘predominantly’ of totally chlorine-free fluff pulp, super absorbent polymer, polyethylene film, polypropylene nonwoven fabrics, and elastic.

While it’s great that the diaper contains TCF wood fluff, the brand doesn’t state what percentage of the diaper is plant-based. It’s easy for companies to call their diapers ‘plant-based’, ‘natural’ or ‘organic’; the FDA doesn’t regulate the use of these terms. But a diaper could use a really small percentage of plant-based materials and use these terms. And that’s not doing anything for the environment, or for your baby’s skin.

Companies like Ecoriginals and Andy Pandy tell us exactly what percentage of their diaper is plant-based. It’s a shame that Millie Moon doesn’t do the same.

Are Millie Moon diapers chemical-free?

It’s so important to know what ingredients your baby’s diapers contain. It’s even more important to know what toxins you need to avoid.

If you’ve never thought about what’s inside disposable diapers before, you’re not alone. But considering some toxins often found in disposable diapers have been linked to conditions like asthma and eczema, it’s something we should all be paying attention to.

Specifically, phthalates, fragrances, and lotions are all hidden chemicals often found in disposable diapers, and we should avoid them wherever possible. Phthalates have been linked to the increased risk of asthma and eczema in little ones, as well as abnormal genital development in little boys, so they should without a doubt be avoided.

So are Millie Moon diapers non-toxic?

Millie Moon diapers are free from:

  • Chlorine
  • Lotions
  • Fragrances
  • Phthalates

This is great news for your baby’s skin, which deserves the softest, most natural diapers around!

Millie Moon diaper features

Millie Moon says their diapers are ‘affordable luxury’ and the ‘softest’ diapers around. The diapers have ‘effective absorption technology’ and will keep your little one dry for up to 12 hours.

In terms of their softness, users report a mixed bag. Some say they’re pretty soft, at least compared to diapers of a similar price, but others say they’re no softer than their usual brand and, with some finding the fastenings awkward, it’s hard to say that Millie Moon diapers are luxurious or top quality.

They do have a handy wetness indicator to let you know when your baby needs to be changed though, as well as double leak guards, and a high fit waistband for a snug fit… in theory!

Millie Moon diapers have a ‘pH-balanced layer’, dermatologically tested and suitable for little ones with sensitive skin. In fact, the materials used in the diaper are certified ‘safe and clean’ by OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

Millie Moon diaper reviews

Brands are very clever when it comes to their marketing practices. But it doesn’t really matter what they say. What really matters is what parents say!

Reviews of Millie Moon diapers on Target’s site are pretty good. They average 4.4 out of 5 in over 4700 reviews, although only 67% of users would recommend them.

Many reviews say they really are soft compared to other, similar brands, and that they’re well made. Users say they kept leaks at bay and fit snugly, thanks to the high waistband. Other reviews say the sizing is hit and miss, which isn’t great for keeping babies dry! Some reviews say the waistband tabs aren’t sticky enough.

Who manufactures Millie Moon Diapers?

The Millie Moon company manufactures its diapers, and these diapers are made in New Zealand.

Where are Millie Moon Diapers made?

Millie Moon diapers were developed in New Zealand. The company sources ingredients from around the world and their diapers are assembled in China.

Millie Moon Luxury diapers price

So what about the price? A pack of size 1 Millie Moon diapers will set you back 23 cents per diaper. Size 4 diapers will set you back 35 cents per diaper, rising to 46 cents per diaper for size 6.

Millie Moon Diapers FAQ:

1) Is Millie Moon a Target brand?

The Millie Moon brand is owned by Target, which is why they’re exclusively sold in Target stores and online!

2) Millie Moon diapers vs Honest Diapers: Which is better?

Millie Moon diapers and Honest diapers share many similarities. Let’s compare the two brands to see which diaper comes out on top!

Comparing Honest diapers to Millie Moon diapers, it’s clear that the brands are pretty similar. Both avoid harsh chemicals and both are made with some plant-based materials. Neither diaper is biodegradable, unfortunately.

Millie Moon diapers are a little cheaper than Honest diapers, but they don’t offer a subscription service. You can still get them delivered to your door though; you can buy them on Target’s website.

If price is a big factor – as it is for most of us – it looks like Millie Moon diapers come out on top. If your budget can stretch to it, it’s worth going for biodegradable diapers like Ecoriginals, Dyper and Eco Pea.

3) Do Millie Moon diapers run small?

Looking at the reviews, it looks like Millie Moon diapers run a little large. That might be partly due to the high waist on these diapers.

4) Can I get Millie Moon a free sample?

Some diaper brands offer free samples of their diapers so parents and carers can give them a go before committing to a big pack. To try a sample of Millie Moon diapers, just head to your nearest Target store.

Some users have reported trying to get hold of free samples, and not being able to. But it’s worth asking if you’re already heading to your local Target.

5) Are Millie Moon wipes any good?

Millie Moon offers sensitive wipes for your little one, as well as soft, absorbent diapers. These wipes are made with a 99% natural formula, which includes aloe, marigold, and avocado extracts to soothe and protect the skin. Like their diapers, Millie Moon wipes are available exclusively at Target, instore and online.

They’re made with 100% biodegradable cloth, and they’re free of alcohol, parabens, phthalates, and fragrances. A pack of 216 Millie Moon wipes will set you back about 7 dollars – about 3 cents per wipe.

Sounds great so far, but what do the reviews say?

Unfortunately, reviews of Millie Moon wipes aren’t super positive. In fact, they average just 3.9 out of 5 in over 230 reviews. While some parents say they’re great for sensitive skin (and they come out one at a time!), others say that the wipes feel dry and aren’t moist enough to deal with messes.

6) Are Millie Moon diapers clean?

You might notice the label ‘clean’ if you check out Millie Moon diapers on Target’s website. Target has compiled a list of products in different categories, including baby products, beauty products and cleaning products, which avoid certain, potentially harmful toxins. The list of toxins that need to be avoided to ‘make the list’ is different for each category. For baby products, these include, parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, triclosan and more.

Each baby product with the Target clean label is also cruelty-free!

7) Does Millie Moon donate to charity?

There’s a wonderful trend emerging in the world of baby diapers. More and more brands are choosing to donate a portion of their profits to charity, many of which are close to the heart of parents. Millie Moon is the latest brand to partner with a charitable organization.

They’ve joined with ‘Reach Out and Read’, an organization supporting literacy development. Millie Moon makes a donation to Reach Out and Read with every pack of diapers sold, which is great news for parents, and for those the organization supports!

Millie Moon Diapers Alternatives

The best diapers are undoubtedly those which use a high percentage of plant-based materials, are free of harmful toxins, and are biodegradable. While Millie Moon diapers certainly avoid harmful toxins, they don’t tell us what percentage of plant-based materials are used in their diapers. And, unfortunately, they’re not biodegradable.

Unsurprisingly, the most eco and skin-friendly diapers are the most expensive. If your budget can stretch to it though, diapers from the likes of Dyper and Eco Pea are more than worth it.

If you’re looking for budget-friendly diapers that won’t cost the earth, brands like Hello Bello and Abby & Finn are the next best alternatives. It’s a shame they’re not biodegradable, but they do avoid toxins like phthalates, fragrances and lotions. We can’t call them eco-friendly because only a part of the diaper is plant-based, but it’s a start…

The good, the bad, the bottom line: Is Millie Moon a good brand?

The Good

  • Super soft
  • Dermatologically tested
  • 12 hours of dryness
  • Great reviews
  • Free from lotions
  • Free from fragrances
  • Free from chlorine
  • Cruelty-free and vegan
  • Sustainably sourced
  • Double leak guard
  • Extra high waist
  • Made with chlorine-free wood pulp
  • Wetness indicator
  • The company donates to charity with every box sold

The Bad

  • The brand doesn’t state what percentage of their diaper is plant-based, the rest of the diaper is made of petroleum-based plastics.
  • Not biodegradable
  • You can only buy Millie Moon diapers at Target

The bottom line

Millie Moon diapers are the new, exclusive-to-Target brand that, ultimately, isn’t offering anything we don’t already have. It’s great that they avoid chemicals like phthalates and fragrances. The more non-toxic diapers available, the better!

While they’re non-toxic, we don’t know what percentage of plant-based materials are used in their diapers and they’re certainly not biodegradable. They’re marketed as the softest, most luxurious diapers, which some parents certainly agree with. But reviews are pretty mixed on the whole, with some saying their fitting is ‘off’.

It’s great that there are more non-toxic brands than ever before popping up on the market. Millie Moon diapers seem to be a pretty budget-friendly addition to this mix, and it’s also a big positive that the company’s committed to charity donations.

If Millie Moon could make their diapers biodegradable, they’d be rocketing straight to the top of my list, for sure.
