It’s so refreshing when diaper and pull-up brands make their ingredients list super accessible. The amount of hours I’ve lost to investigating diaper ingredients doesn’t bear thinking about…
But it’s so important to think about it, and make sure you’re informed; we put our little ones into diapers and pull-ups every day for the first years of their lives. Their skin is so sensitive and delicate, and it deserves only the best.
Luckily, I didn’t have to spend hours trawling the internet for a full list of Hello Bello’s ingredients.
Here’s what their pull-ups are made of:
Topsheet and Backsheet – Polypropylene/polyethylene/polyester nonwoven fibers
Core Liner (beneath acquisition layer) – Plant-derived PLA nonwoven fiber
The absorbent core – Totally chlorine-free fluff pulp from sustainably managed forests and SAP
All of the poly- ingredients are some form of plastic. This isn’t surprising, even with ‘healthier’ diapers. And there are currently no 100% biodegradable diapers or pull-ups on the market, so plastic is pretty difficult to avoid.

And they clearly make an effort to use some plant-based materials, although they don’t state what percentage of plant-based materials are used.
Are Hello Bello Training Pants good for sensitive skin?
Just as important as what goes into diapers and pull-ups is what doesn’t. So what do Hello Bello pull-ups avoid?

It might surprise you to learn that lots of diapers and pull-ups contain a bunch of added chemicals. This is even more frustrating when you find out that they’re completely unnecessary and, like so many things in this world, it really comes down to convenience and cost.

It’s much cheaper and easier in a lot of instances to use certain chemicals, rather than omit them completely or find safe alternatives. Phthalates, for example, are used to make products more durable, but there are plenty of ways to do this that don’t involve potentially harmful chemicals, as non-toxic brands like Hello Bello, Honest and Seventh Generation can attest to.
So why are phthalates so bad? Well, along with fragrances and lotions, they have the potential to irritate the skin. Not only that, but they’ve been linked to asthma and eczema in young children.

When it comes to non-toxic, hypoallergenic training pants, there are plenty on the market to choose from.
My favorite brands include Healthybaby, Eco Pea and Ecoriginals. All provide effective and completely non-toxic diapers that make efforts to use plant-based materials. In fact, Ecoriginals pull-ups are made with over 90% biodegradable materials. This is pretty amazing, considering most brands don’t make the effort to use a significant percentage of biodegradable materials, and most contain chemicals too.
Eco Pea is another of my favorite brands, using 85% biodegradable materials in their pull-ups, as well as being packaged in completely compostable paper packs.
No matter what pull-up you choose – whether A-list or not – the main thing is to avoid potentially harmful toxins. A significant percentage of plant-based and biodegradable materials is a bonus, and if your budget can stretch to it, they’re the gold-medal-winning choice.
