The non-toxic diaper market is exploding right now. New brands are cropping up every day, offering skin-healthy products that don’t just protect our little ones’ skin, but keep the leaks at bay too.
So what’s the deal with BabyCozy?
BabyCozy diapers were born out of MomCozy. Founder Athena launched a breast pump bra in 2017 that revolutionized the market. Since then, the brand has branched out into a range of breastfeeding essentials and, of course, diapers.
Marketed as super (super) soft, what’s the real deal with these diapers? Do they contain any hidden toxins, like many brands on the market? Or are they skin healthy?

What are BabyCozy diapers made of?
Diaper brands are getting better at being transparent. And that’s exactly what we deserve as parents. We put our little ones in diapers for the first years of their lives, and want those diapers to be as healthy as possible.
That starts with knowing exactly what our chosen diapers are made of.
BabyCozy offers a full list of ingredients used in their diapers:
Topsheet – 3% cotton + 97% polyethylene terephthalate/polyethylene
Backsheet – 100% Polyethylene terephthalate/polyethylene
The absorbent core – FSC approved chlorine-free wood pulp and SAP
BabyCozy diapers are made with FSC-approved pulp, but not much. In fact, the vast majority of the diaper is made with petroleum-based plastics. And that’s hardly unusual for your standard disposable diaper.
There’s no 100% plant-based diaper on the market… yet. But there are plenty of diapers that use a high percentage of plant-based materials. Andy Pandy diapers are made with 87% biodegradable materials, and Ecoriginals are made with a seriously impressive 90%!

But what are these chemicals, and why is it so important to avoid them?
It’s a sad fact that nasty chemicals can be found hiding in a bunch of baby products, including diapers, wipes and toys. And that’s because the FDA doesn’t regulate the use of some toxins in diapers. So we’re left to do the research ourselves.
It’s often cheaper for brands to use chemicals, or easier. But that doesn’t matter. What does matter is our babies’ health. And that’s why we need to steer clear of chemicals like phthalates, fragrances and lotions.
These hidden toxins can irritate the skin and, in some cases, do worse.
- Phthalates
Perhaps the most important chemical to avoid is phthalates. These tough-to-pronounce toxins are lurking in products like children’s toys, flooring and, of course, diapers. A 2014 study found that exposure to phthalates as a child may ‘perturb normal development’ by interfering with hormones. It also found a link between exposure and the well the increased risk of allergic diseases.
Considering that babies’ skin, especially newborns, hasn’t had chance to develop a barrier to protect itself from toxin absorption, it’s crucial we steer clear of chemicals like phthalates.
So where do we stand with BabyCozy diapers?

- Fragrances
Fragrances are often used in diapers, and they’re often painted as a positive. They should be avoided because the term ‘fragrances’, yet again, isn’t regulated by the FDA. That means the term can be used to hide a bunch of harmful chemicals, like irritants, allergens and carcinogens.
So many brands offer fragrance free diapers – it’s easier than ever to find chemical-free baby products for the sensitive skin of our little ones. Ecoriginals, Eco Pea and Dyper are some of my favorites.

- Chlorine
Chlorine isn’t necessarily bad for our babies’ skin, but there’s still an important reason why it should be avoided. Chlorine is used to bleach diapers (and change the color of the material) and it’s completely unnecessary. If chlorine finds its way into water supplies, it can mix with other minerals and produce harmful toxins.
It’s best to look for diapers that are totally chlorine free (TCF). And BabyCozy diapers tick that box!
Are BabyCozy diapers biodegradable?
BabyCozy diapers aren’t biodegradable. But what does that mean?
Biodegradable diapers are made with a high percentage of plant-based ingredients, and can be broken back down into soil over time. Your average disposable diaper is made predominantly with plastics. And we all know how long they stick around for – hundreds of years at the very least.

You can buy BabyCozy diapers on Amazon, on Walmart’s site and on the BabyCozy site. They’re not available in any major grocery stores… yet!
How much do BabyCozy diapers cost?
A 148-pack of size 1 BabyCozy diapers will set you back about 60 bucks, or 41 cents per diaper. This cost rises to about 56 cents per diaper for size 3 and 92 cents per diaper for size 6.
BabyCozy diapers certainly aren’t the cheapest non-toxic diapers on the market, especially in the larger sizes.
What do reviews say?
Over on Amazon, BabyCozy diapers average 4.4 out of 5 in over 360 reviews. While parents and carers love their softness, some say that their little ones have experienced leaks with these diapers.
Do BabyCozy diapers have a trial?
Yes! It’s great when diaper brands offer trials. Diapers aren’t cheap, so small trial packs are a great way to give them a go without handing over too much of your hard-earned cash. Or, so you’d think…
You can choose a diaper-only trial pack, which includes 12 diapers for about 10 bucks. It’s safe to say the trial pack is anything but budget-friendly!

It’s great that BabyCozy diapers are free of harsh toxins. The more non-toxic diapers on the market, the better! But there are lots of brands that are more widely available, and better value. So what are the best alternatives to BabyCozy?
Hello Bello is one of my favorite non-toxic picks. Founded by Kristen Bell, the A-list actress and entrepreneur, the brand produces healthy diapers made with some plant-based materials.
Like BabyCozy diapers, Hello Bello diapers aren’t made with a high percentage of plant-based materials, and they’re not biodegradable. But, they’re great value, and they offer a subscribe and save service – great for busy parents and carers!

Another of my favorite non-toxic options is Healthybaby. These super skin-healthy diapers are made with some plant-based materials and, impressively, they’re the first (and currently the only) diapers verified by the Environmental Working Group.
The EWG, a nonprofit group, highlights harmful industry practices to make finding healthy products easier for consumers. If a diaper is verified by the group, you know they’re the best for our little ones’ sensitive skin.

Conclusion: Are BabyCozy diapers worth it?
While I can’t knock BabyCozy diapers – they’re free of harsh toxins, after all – they’re certainly not the cheapest on the market. And they’re not widely available, like many similar non-toxic diapers.
So it’s undoubtedly great that these super soft diapers are genuinely good for the skin, but they’re not at the top of my non-toxic list.
Brands like Hello Bello and Dyper offer chemical-free products for our little ones that won’t break the bank. And they also offer subscribe and save options, for diapers straight to your door.
We’re lucky that we have so many options when it comes to toxin-free diapers. Now, what we really need is more biodegradable options: the creme de la creme of baby products.
