This diaper brand prides itself on its eco-friendly… ness. Some brands label themselves eco-friendly, plant-based, or organic, but their diapers will ultimately end up in landfills with the rest of them. Of course, diapers made from bamboo or cotton are preferable to the usual plastic, but it’s also important to look for diapers that are biodegradable too where possible.
Luckily, Dyper comes through for us in the eco-friendly, biodegradable stakes. Not only are they made primarily from bamboo fibers and totally chlorine-free wood pulp (the use of chlorine is terrible for the environment), but they’re also compostable – the wet ones at least. Given that studies show a potential increased risk of asthma and eczema in children (1) – and even abnormal genital development in boys – you’d think it’d be easy to avoid them. Diapers that are great for your baby’s health and great for the planet are generally more expensive than regular brands. Compared to similar brands, Dyper’s prices are actually pretty reasonable, especially if you subscribe, which saves you 15%. A month’s worth of small diapers will set you back 68 dollars if you subscribe, which is about 38 cents per diaper. These will be delivered every 4 weeks and the shipping is free!
Heading over to Amazon, a pack of 36 medium diapers costs around 22 dollars, which works out at about 60 cents per diaper, so the costs vary quite a bit. The cheapest option seems to be to subscribe to the diapers on the Dyper site and remember that you can cancel your subscription whenever you want to.

1. How many diapers do you get with Dyper?
The number of diapers in a pack with Dyper varies depending on the size. You’ll get 52 diapers in a newborn pack, 44 diapers in a pack of small size, 36 diapers in a pack of medium-sized diapers, 28 in a large pack, and 20 in an extra large-sized pack.
When subscribing to the Dyper service, you can choose how many packs you want to receive, and how often: every 2, 3, 4, 8, or 12 weeks. This can be amended easily and you can cancel the subscription whenever you want to!
2. Is it OK to wear diapers for 24 hours?
Some diapers claim to keep baby dry for up to 12 hours, so they’re great for overnights. But leaving baby in their diaper for that long isn’t recommended – it’s uncomfortable for them and diaper rash is almost inevitable!
Certain brands of diapers have wetness indicators, which are great for seeing exactly when your little one needs a change. Praise the eco-friendly Lords; Dyper diapers are indeed biodegradable! ‘Organic’, ‘eco-friendly’ and ‘plant-based’ are certainly buzzwords for diaper companies at the minute, but many brands’ diapers cannot be composted, despite these impressive labels. While they’re preferable to plastic disposable diapers, which includes some of the biggest, most popular brands, they’re still gonna end up in landfills with the rest of the diaper world. But wet biodegradable (not the poopy ones) can be composted, which is great for the environment, and great for plants! It’s actually pretty simple to compost diapers, and Dyper diapers even offer a service that does it for you.

If your baby’s had a few more changes than you expected and you start to run low, there’s no need to go to the store; Dyper have got you covered with their SOS service. Subscribers to Dyper can simply click the SOS button and a diaper delivery will be on its way to your door at no additional cost. You can request an SOS delivery up to twice per year, although bear in mind that it might take a couple of days to arrive! This is great for your peace of mind, especially if your little one decides they wanna test the new diapers out with a few poop explosions. When I say ‘if’, I mean ‘when’. Obviously.

The use of chlorine in the manufacture of diapers is something to consider if you’re looking to make an eco-friendly purchase. Chlorine was used as a weapon in world wars and is, somehow, still used to bleach diapers in some cases. While it’s not necessarily harmful to your baby, it’s absolutely terrible for the environment, so it should be avoided wherever possible!
Diapers often describe themselves as ‘elemental chlorine free’ or ‘totally chlorine-free’, with the latter being the best option. Luckily, Dyper diapers are completely free from chlorine.

Dyper doesn’t just have our backs with, well, diapers. It offers a whole host of awesome baby and family products, like wipes, diaper cream, briefs, cloth diapers, diaper bags, and diaper pails. Like their diapers, all of their products are designed with your little one and the environment in mind.
Their diaper cream contains a load of lovely ingredients like vitamin E, jojoba seed oil, and poppy seed oil, is completely vegan (most use animal products!) and it’s phthalate, paraben and gluten-free.
Dyper now also offer what they call ‘Superhero Diapers’: pull-on diapers which are extra wide and absorbent. They only have limited availability, so if you wanna try them, you’ve gotta be quick!

8. How much do diapers cost monthly?
How much will diapers cost per month completely depends on the age of your baby, how they’re being fed, and the brand you choose. Newborns should be changed anything up to 12 times each day, so you might need around 250 diapers in that first month! As little ones grow, they need to be changed a little less, with breastfed babies tending to ‘go’ more than formula-fed babies.
The cost of diapers varies depending on the brand and the size you need. You can pay as little as 16-20 cents per diaper to 50-60+ for the more expensive brands. Dypers cost somewhere in the middle, at around 38 cents per diaper for a small-sized pack, as long as you subscribe. That’s just under a hundred dollars per month for very young babies. Brands like Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers come in at around 16 cents per diaper and, even though they’re not biodegradable, they’re produced in a no-waste facility: all waste is either reused or recycled.
9. Are all bamboo diapers compostable?
Bamboo is certainly ‘en vogue’ right now in the world of diapers. It’s a great sustainable material that’s super soft and absorbent, so pretty perfect for a diaper. It’s much better to go for diapers made primarily from bamboo rather than plastics, but they’re not all necessarily biodegradable. If you can compost them, the brand will shout about it, so it’ll be easy to determine whether a brand’s diapers are biodegradable.

When it comes to Dyper diapers, it’s their eco-friendly nature and subscription service that makes them stand out from the crowd. There are plenty of alternative brands that offer a similar deal, some more expensive than others.

While biodegradable diapers are pretty much never 100% biodegradable, Andy Pandy comes good with 85% of their diaper being suitable for composting.

The bottom line
Dyper diapers are pretty impressive. They’re (genuinely) eco-friendly, not a bad price, and great for your little one’s skin, with no harsh chemicals in sight. They put their money where their mouth is when it comes to eco-credentials, which many brands fall short on. Not only are they made with plant-based materials, but they’re biodegradable, and composting diapers is actually easier than you might think! Plus, you get a great – and pretty smug – feeling from doing it. Definitely, one to brag about, I think.
Subscribing to a diaper service like the one that Dyper offers gives you one less thing to worry about when you already have one or more little ones who take up all of your energy! Plus, there’s no carting heavy packs back from the grocery store. Not that us, parents and carers, can’t handle that; we’re used to carrying about 140lbs of baby stuff with us wherever we go.
