If you’ve never visited Thrive Market’s website, you’re missing out. Packed with organic, vegan and eco-friendly groceries, it’s a great place to shop for everything from snacks to supplements to bath and body care.
They even have a large baby and kids section, and produce their own brand of diapers.
With pretty impressive reviews, these diapers are made with significantly more sustainable materials than some conventional diapers, but what does that really mean?
Are Thrive Market diapers really more eco-friendly, do they contain any sneaky hidden chemicals, and are they good?

What are Thrive Market diapers made of?
We put our babies – and their sensitive skin – in diapers 24/7 for the first years of their lives. So it’s important to know what exactly goes into the diapers we choose, and how this might affect their skin, as well as how this impacts our environment.
It’s great when brands make their ingredients list readily available, and, luckily, that’s the case with Thrive Market diapers.
Thrive Market tells us that the inner and outer layers of their diapers are made with plant-derived and petroleum-based plastics. Their absorbent core is made with totally chlorine-free wood pulp from sustainably managed forests.

Thrive Market diapers also feature safe adhesives, polypropylene and polymer spandex in the leg and waist systems, inks made without heavy metals. Citrus extract and liquid chlorophyll are included in the absorbent core and act as odor blockers.
It’s great that Thrive Market diapers feature some plant-based materials, but it’s tough to find out the exact percentage used. They do claim to use 30-40% more sustainable and renewable materials than some major brands, though.
Unfortunately, brands like Pampers and Huggies have set the bar pretty low, with many varieties packed with chemicals and made mainly with petroleum-based plastics.

It’s great that Thrive Market diapers are free of fragrances and dyes, which can easily irritate a little one’s super sensitive skin. And, even better, they’re free of phthalates.
These chemicals find their way into lots of diapers, even in the top brands like Pampers and Huggies. But why is this an issue?
Phthalates’ve been linked with eczema and asthma in little ones, along with abnormal genital development in little boys. I don’t understand why they’re still allowed to be used, either.
Luckily, Thrive Market diapers are completely free of these nasty chemicals.

So if you want to try Thrive Market diapers, how much will they set you back?
Firstly, you have to become a member. Members get up to 30% off groceries, including their own brand of diapers, but this membership will cost you 60 bucks a year ($5 per month). So if a membership is worth it really depends on how regularly you’ll use it.
They do promise to credit you the money you don’t save over your membership.
A pack of 124 size 3 diapers costs $32.99 with a membership. That’s about 26 cents per diaper, which is reasonable for a diaper that uses some plant-based materials.
As is the case with all diapers, larger sizes will cost you more, with a 92-pack of size 5 diapers adding up to $32.99, or about 36 cents per diaper. Thrive Market diapers seem to be a little cheaper than similar brands, like Hello Bello and Honest, although you do have to factor in the membership cost.

You need to be a member to shop with them, which will set you back 60 bucks a year. It’s probably not worth getting a membership just for their diapers.
Similar brands like Honest are more widely available, and a lot easier to get hold of.
What do reviews say about Thrive Market diapers?
Reviews of Thrive Market diapers are super positive. In fact, they average 4.7 out of 5 in over 560 reviews on their site.
Users say they’re great at preventing leaks and they feel like they’re good quality. A few parents do say, though, that they noticed rashes on their little ones’ skin after using Thrive Market diapers.
They’re not made with as many plant-based materials as biodegradable diapers like Eco Pea and Ecoriginals, so if rashes are a concern, it’s probably best to look for a diaper made with a high percentage of plant-based materials.

Thrive Market offers baby wipes along with their diapers. These wipes are free of dyes, colors, fragrances, BPA and chlorine. If that wasn’t enough, they’re completely cruelty-free and hypoallergenic.
With an average of 4.5 out of 5 in over 1630 reviews, they’re certainly tried and tested. Users say they’re great for sensitive skin and they’re super easy to get out of the packet! A pack of 80 wipes will set you back $3.49 – about 4 cents each.
Thrive Market Diapers Alternatives
It’s great that Thrive Market diapers use more renewable and sustainable materials than some disposable diapers – 30-40% more, in fact. But they’re not the best of the best when it comes to diapers that look after our little ones, and the planet.
Similar brands like Hello Bello and Abby & Finn also use some plant-based materials, are a similar price and are free of harsh chemicals like fragrances, lotions and the big one – phthalates.
If you’re looking for a diaper that goes some way to reducing plastic use and is completely free of potentially-harmful toxins, these brands are pretty comparable to Thrive Market diapers.

But, if you want to make the switch to diapers that are truly green, take a look at biodegradable diapers such as Ecoriginals, Dyper or Eco Pea. Biodegradable diapers, unlike regular diapers, can be broken down back into soil, sometimes within a matter of months. Diapers made mainly with petroleum-based plastics will take hundreds of years to do the same.

What is the best diaper on the market?
The best diapers on the market are those that use a high percentage of plant-based materials, are biodegradable and are free of toxins. They have to be pretty good at preventing blowouts too, of course.
One of my favorite brands is Ecoriginals; I truly think they’re one of the best diapers on the market right now. They’re over 90% biodegradable, completely free of toxins like phthalates and fragrances and made with sustainably-sourced wood pulp. And if that wasn’t enough, they’re 40% more absorbent than standard disposable diapers, they’re delivered in compostable packaging and the brand plants a tree for every order they receive.

Thrive Market’s a wonderland of (mostly) healthy groceries, baby and kids’ products and bath and bodycare. But access to these products – often at great prices – comes at a cost, quite literally.
For $60 a year, you’ll be able to buy Thrive diapers – made with 30-40% more plant-based materials than some conventional diapers. They’re free from fragrances, phthalates, chlorine and dyes, which is great news for our little ones’ skin.
If you’re interested in being a Thrive Market member and you’re looking for great non-toxic diapers that won’t break the bank, their diapers are definitely worth trying. These budget-friendly diapers are completely free of toxins, including phthalates, and contain some plant-based materials.
